KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 (Bernama) — Internet registry & addressing services provider Mynic Bhd has invested US$15,000 (US$1=RM3.20) to set up a new mirror version of its F-root server in Malaysia which will allow faster query response for the local online community.
Its director, Shariya Haniz Zulkifli, said today the server, which will be set up in association with Internet System Consortium (ISC) Inc, is a duplication of the global main servers and will localise the internet traffic within Malaysia.
She pointed out that currently, the growing traffic on the net worldwide is being managed by 13 main root servers situated around the globe.
ISC is also the provider of one of these main servers.
“ISC will install and operate the new server in Malaysia while Mynic will offer secured hosting & network connectivity for this project,” she said after signing a memorandum of understanding with ISC here.
“Due to developments in the world of internet, where higher connectivity is expected, with the implementation of broadband and Wimax technologies, the need for faster routing is essential to support the speed of the medium.
“Our Internet community is growing and this will encourage more people to go online,” she added.
Shariya said the server is expected to be fully operational next week.
