MyIX’s Traffic Surges

This month we could see demand for local traffic increases. Aims IDC which selling local bandwidth separately shows increase of bandwidth utilization between AIMS (IDC provider) – TM (Broadband Provider). The IDC has been popular due to traffic segregation charges between local and international. Thumbs up for AIMS.

Malaysia, Indonesia telcos to build 400km submarine cable

KUALA LUMPUR, February 11 (Xinhua) — Malaysia’s telecommunication giant Telekom Malaysia (TM) will jointly construct a 400-kilometer submarine telecommunication cable linking Malaysia and Indonesia with its Indonesian partners.

An agreement on the joint project was signed in Kuala Lumpur on Friday between TM and its Indonesian partners, namely PT XL Axiata and PT Mora Telematika.

The cable will have two stretches with one connecting the Malacca State in the west coast of Peninsula Malaysia and Dumai, a city on the Sumatra Island of Indonesia.

The other one will connect Dumai and Batam, an island in the Riau Islands Province of Indonesia.

Named the Batam-Dumai-Malacca (BDM) Cable System, the new infrastructure consists of two fibre pairs, designed to provide 1. 28 trillion bytes per second (Tbps) adopting the Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology.

Once completed, it will also be able to provide upgradable, future-proof transmission facilities.

Rozaimy Rahman, executive vice president of TM’s subsidiary TM Global, told reporters at the signing ceremony that the project benefitted not only the consortium members, but also countries and regions connecting to each other directly serviced by the system.

He said that currently, there were two telecommunication cables connecting Indonesia and Malaysia.

The BDM Cable System would be an alternative if there was any breakdown in the existing cable systems, Rozaimy said, adding that it would help promote Malaysia as a transit hub for internet traffic.

XL Axiata is a mobile telecommunication operator, while Mora Telematika is a network and internet service provider.

Microsoft Security Essentials

Microsoft Security Essentials by MS

Microsoft Security Essentials provides real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.

Microsoft Security Essentials is a free* download from Microsoft that is simple to install, easy to use, and always kept up to date so you can be assured your PC is protected by the latest technology. It’s easy to tell if your PC is secure — when you’re green, you’re good. It’s that simple.

Microsoft Security Essentials runs quietly and efficiently in the background so that you are free to use your Windows-based PC the way you want—without interruptions or long computer wait time

According to Neil Rubenking, a PC Magazine author, in an on-demand scan test that he conducted in June 2009, Microsoft Security Essentials Beta found 89 percent of all malware samples: It found only 30 percent of commercial keyloggers, 67 percent of rootkits and only half of scareware samples. The suite’s real-time protection found 83 percent of all malware samples and blocked the majority of them: In this test, Microsoft Security Essentials found 40 percent of the commercial keyloggers and 78 percent of the rootkits.Later on October that year, AV-Test.org conducted a series of trials on the officially released version of the product in which Microsoft Security Essentials detected and caught 98.44 percent of 545,034 computer viruses, computer worms and software Trojan horses as well as 90.95 percent of 14,222 spyware and adware samples. It also detected and eliminated all 25 tested rootkits. Microsoft Security Essentials generated no false-positive at all.

On 7 January 2010, Microsoft Security Essentials won the PC Advisor’s Best Free Software award.

Based of our testing, the installation was a breeze. We do further evaluation by feeding common malware that normally infect web pages and EICAR test file to valuate the detection accuracy. Stay tuned! Download here
